Zona G. Kayl, 87 of Sioux City passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at a local care facility. Services will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Father Michael Erpelding will officiate. Burial will be in the Ponca (NE) Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. Friday with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 Friday a Vigil Service at 7:00 P.M. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Zona was born January 10, 1928 in Sioux City; she was the daughter of Phillip and Emma (Mitchell) Grillet. Zona married Owen Rose Sr. in 1946 and to this marriage three children were born, Owen Rose, Jr., Terry L. Rose and Emma B. Rose. She later married Paul Joseph Kayl in 1963 and he passed away in 2001. Zona and Paul lived and worked in Sioux City until 1973 when they moved to Winnebago, NE. There they both worked until they retired in a family farm in Ponca, NE in 1983. Zona moved back to Sioux City after her husband Paul's death in 2001. Zona enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, Church activities and playing Bingo. Survivors include her children: Terry Rose (Rita) of Sioux City, Emma Rose (Dan Gieseler) of Cleveland, OH, Ray Kayl (Pam) of McCook Lake, SD, Veronica Free of Winnebago, NE, Thomas Kayl (Angela) of Lawton, IA, Joseph Kayl of Sioux City; her siblings: Virginia Parker-Son of Arizona, Yvette Connin of Indiana, Mary Bland of Arizona, Henry Grillet of Washington; 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Zona was preceded in death by her parents, her children: Owen "Tubby" Rose, Jr. and Patricia Detches; her siblings: Phillip Grillet, Jr., Warren Grillet, Audrey Adams, Darlene Lecato, Barbara Connin and Patricia Kloucek. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Zona's name. The family of Zona wished to thank the staff of Touchstone Living Center and Siouxland Pace for the incredible care and love they provided Zona.
