Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com Jim was born April 25, 1944 in Decatur, Illinois to W.R. and Edith (Irvine) Rossiter. He graduated from St. Teresa High School in 1962 and received his B.S. from Decatur's Millikin University in 1966. He went on to medical school at the University of Missouri, graduating in 1970, completing his medical internship at Mt. Carmel Hospital in Columbus, Ohio in 1971. From 1971 through 1973 he served as a medical officer at Andrew Rader U.S. Army Clinic at Fort Meyer in Virginia. In 1976 he completed his dermatology residency at the University of Missouri under the instruction of his mentor and dear friend, Dr. Phil Anderson. Jim met Sharon Anne Seggelke at a high school party and at first sight, informed his friends that she was the woman he planned to marry. Sherry and Jim were united in the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony on September 1, 1962 and were blessed with three children. After Jim completed his residency, he was recruited to join the dermatology practice of Drs. William (Bud) Ziebell and Douglas Oss in Sioux City. Dr. J. Mark DeMay joined them in 1997. Ziebell, Oss, Rossiter and DeMay were more than just business partners--they were true colleagues--often bouncing diagnoses and treatments off of one another and always learning from each other. His practice flourished for 35 years until his retirement in December of 2011 following his cancer diagnosis. Jim's greatest love was his family and he enjoyed sharing his countless interests and hobbies with them. He had a lifelong passion for music of all genres and actually received a minor in music in college. He was currently serving on the Executive Board of the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra. Jim enjoyed outdoor sports, especially fishing and hunting, and loved shooting over his beloved golden retrievers. He leaves behind his loyal companion, Jester. He owned many cars over the years, but had a special fondness for Mustangs. Jim was an avid reader, especially of history, and collected many books. He was also a serious Civil War buff. As his friends, family and patients know well, Jim was a font of information on many subjects and always had a story to tell, usually with a healthy dose of humor. Jim had a strong Catholic faith and was a long-time member of St. Michael Church in Sioux City where he served for many years as a Eucharistic minister. Jim is survived by his cherished wife of 52 years, Sherry (Seggelke) Rossiter; son, Dr. Thomas Rossiter and wife Jenissa of Nixa, Missouri; daughter, Dr. Jackie Rossiter of St. Louis, Missouri; son, Robert Rossiter of Junction City, Kansas; grandsons Jim & Rob Rossiter of Nixa, Missouri; brother, Dr. Thomas R. Rossiter and wife Cindy of Fairfield Glen, Tennessee; sister, Patricia Rossiter of Decatur, Illinois; mother-in-law, Peggy Seggelke of Springfield, Illinois; brother-in-law James Seggelke and wife Elizabeth of Girard, Illinois; sister-in-law, Kay Flemming and husband Timothy of Davenport, Iowa; 9 nieces and nephews; and dermatology partner and dear friend Dr. J. Mark DeMay and wife Renee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Edith Rossiter; brother Robert in infancy; and father-in-law Harold Seggelke. Honorary pallbearers include grandsons, Jim and Rob Rossiter, Dr. Bud Ziebell and Dr. Mark DeMay. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be directed to St. Michael Catholic Church or the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra.
