Marjorie A. McKown, 88, of Omaha, formerly a longtime resident of Sioux City passed away on March 9, 2015, at Parson's House of Omaha. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel in Sioux City, Iowa. Burial of her cremains will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time on Saturday at the funeral home. Her father was Adolph ("Johnny") Rudolph Utecht, and her mother was Anna Wilhelmina Utecht (nee Claussen). Before Margie was married, she taught country school near Wausa, Nebraska. She married Orville ("Smokey") McKown on May 26, 1944, in Troy, Kansas. Smokey was in the Air Force and stationed in St. Joseph, Missouri, before heading to Guam in the Second World War. While Smokey was in Guam, Margie lived in Santa Monica, California, where she worked in the telegraph office for six months. Margie then lived with her Mom and Dad in Bloomfield, Nebraska, until Smokey came home from the war. They had four daughters, Carol Ann, Jo Ellen, Geraldine, and Peggy. In 1949, they moved to Sioux City, Iowa, when Smokey got a job on the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. After Peggy was in Kindergarten, Marjorie worked making radios in Sioux City for a short time. She eventually graduated from Edwards Business School and worked as a secretary for a local distributing company and later for the Sioux City Community School Career Center before retiring in 1987. After Smokey died in 1997, she lived in the house they built together in Sioux City. Margie loved visiting family, taking care of her home, sewing, and crocheting. She eventually moved to assisted living/memory care in Omaha, Nebraska, until she passed away. Marjorie was a member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, Anna and Adolph Utecht; her husband, Orville L. (Smokey) McKown; her daughter and husband, Carol and Bruce Larsen; her daughter and husband, Jo Ellen (Marksbury) and Vyrl Blum; her daughter Peggy Bowker; her sisters, Delores Stalhin (John Stalhin), Mildred Hallvin (Leonard Hallvin), June Montgomery (Thomas Montgomery), Alma Ewald (Wallace Ewald) and her brother, Delbert Utecht (Janet Utecht), She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Geri and Will Clanton, her son-in-law Jerry Bowker, her sister Pauline Nelson (Roger Nelson) and her brother Donald Utecht, (Irene Utecht). Marjorie is also survived by ten grandchildren, Terri Clark, Kelly Stover (Tim), Kari Munger (Greg), Chris Larsen (Sandy), Shannon Henry (Geno), Jody Robertson (Dev), Angi Marksbury, Brian Clanton (Maya), Jamie Secord (Doug), Jeremy Bowker (Melissa), 25 great-grandchildren and one on the way, three great-great grandchildren and one on the way.
