SIOUX CITY | James E. "Jim" Maffit, 58, of Sioux City passed away Thursday at his home. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Rev. Martha Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Cushing Cemetery, Cushing, IA. Visitation with the family present will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday with a prayer service at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Jim was born Jan. 10, 1957 in Sioux City the son of Erwin W. and Violet J. (Thompson) Maffit. Following graduation from North High School, he worked for the City of Sioux City. Jim lived in Phoenix, AZ for about 15 years where he worked as a CNA. He returned to Sioux City and was a private caregiver. Music was a big part of Jim's life and he loved entertaining others at various events. Jim had a green thumb and enjoyed his garden. He also loved his dogs and cats. Survivors include a son, Jeff Maffit of Sioux City; a daughter, Jessica Weber of Sioux Falls, SD; 4 siblings, David (Kathy) Meyer of Salix, IA, Karen (Roger) Dempster of Le Mars, IA, Sue (TJ) Hughes of Sioux City and Gene (Sherri) Maffit of South Sioux City, NE; and grandchildren, nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Clark Maffit and Randy Meyer. Honorary pallbearers will be his nieces and nephews.
