Jean Marie James, 62, of South Sioux City, NE passed away on Wednesday February 25, 2015 at her home. Funeral services will be on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel with Deacon Pat Roberts officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the funeral home on Sunday. Burial will be at a later date in the Santee Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. She graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1970 and earned an accounting certificate from WIT. She worked for 13 years at Kmart and most recently as a cage cashier at the Argosy Casino. She enjoyed gardening, creating Indian bead work, and reading. Jean was an avid Nebraska football fan. She volunteered for many years for the March of Dimes. She was a longtime member of St. Paul Indian Mission Church and was very proud to be member of the Santee Sioux Nation. Jean is survived by her mother Frances A. James of South Sioux City; son Rory James of Athens, GA; brother William F. James of South Sioux City, NE; niece A. Kortney Barbee of Sioux City and nephew Bill Barbee of Minneapolis, MN; and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her father and a sister Kathy Barbee.
