Robert Lee "Bob" Hinders, 89 of North Sioux City, South Dakota passed away on Monday, February 16, 2015. A Memorial Service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 28, 2015 at the Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Reverend Merrill Muller officiating. Inurnment will follow at Logan Park Cemetery with Military Graveside Honors offered by the 185th Air Refueling Wing Honor Guard. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com Bob was born on January 19, 1926 in Dayton, Ohio to Robert G. and Rosa (Renner) Hinders. Bob served his country in both WWII and the Vietnam War. He served in the Army Airforce from November of 1943 until October of 1945 as a tail-gunner on a B-17. He flew 32 missions with the 8th Air Force while stationed in England. Bob received his honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant decorated with numerous ribbons and bronze stars from the 533D Bomb Squad. He married Virginia L. Bettis on November 11, 1945 in South Sioux City, Nebraska. Bob served in the United States Air Force from January of 1968 to January of 1970, where he was a Technical Sergeant with the 37th Tactical Fighter Wing (PACAF) during the Vietnam War stationed at Phu Cat Air Force Base as a Quality Control Safety Inspector from May of 1968 until May of 1969. Bob received his Bachelor's degree in teaching at Westmar University in LeMars, furthered his education with a Masters of Arts in Administration of Adult Education from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion in 1980, and had taken 40 hours of education towards his Doctorate Degree in Education. Work was a priority for Bob. He was a owner operator of a small grocery store from 1945 until 1948, worked at Crosley TV Company in 1949, held a Federal job in Dayton, Ohio at Gentile Depot in 1951 and for two years supervised crystal fabrication for transmitters and radios. Upon returning to Sioux City, Bob worked at Gibson Appliances before owning and operating his own TV repair shop for nine years. He worked for Wincharger as a supervisor for two years before starting his teaching career in 1965. For 24 years, Bob taught at the Sioux City Area Technical School, which later grew to Western Iowa Tech Community College. After retirement, Bob worked for the 1990 Census as a supervisor, then for WESTAT doing research for the Federal Government traveling the US for 14 years. Bob's last job was in 2012 to 2013 with the Veterans Administration in South Dakota as a Service Officer. He is survived by his wife Virginia Lucille of North Sioux City, SD; four children: son Roger (Betty) Hinders of Oregon, daughter Denise Sarita Harrington of Arizona, daughter Marla (Kevin) Kerr of Sioux City, and son David (Alice) Hinders of Nebraska; daughter-in-law Carole Hinders of Spirit Lake, Iowa; six grandchildren Joshua Hinders, Olga (Brian Byrnes) Hinders, Emily (Doug) Jones, Rachel (Dustin) DeBoer, Eva (Mark) Merz, and Dale (Natalie) Hinders; seven great-grandchildren, Spy, Oona, Lily, Josephine, Arcade, Winston, and Langston; six siblings: Rosalie (Tom) Youngerman, Bill (Jackie) Hinders, Ruth (John) Flores, Henry (Ina) Benbow, Carol Chance and Diane Cron; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Hinders and step-mother Billie, Rosa Benbow and step-father, Adneh Lee Benbow; brothers Johnny Hinders, Jerome Benbow, and Kenneth Benbow, and sister Violet Kinsey.
