George Marvin Burg, 86, of Dakota Dunes, SD passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Sunrise Retirement Community in Sioux City. Abiding by his wishes, the body will be cremated and memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Augustana Lutheran Church with Rev. Del Olivier officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church. Arrangements are by Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com George was born on January 24, 1929 in Sioux City to C. Albert and Gwen (Mottram) Burg. He attended public schools and graduated from Leeds High School in 1947. He served his country in the US Navy from 1952 to 1953. He received his degree in Electrical Engineering from Iowa State University in 1958. He worked for General Motors for 29 years as a design engineer. He was united in marriage with Myrna A. Thomason on May 31, 1953 in Memphis, TN. They had two sons and lived in IA, WI, and MI before moving to South Dakota in 1992. George was an active member of Augustana Lutheran Church. He had many interests and hobbies. He was especially proud of his Swedish and English genealogy research. He did volunteer work for his church, the Sioux City Symphony and Sioux City Museum. He enjoyed working with wood, building many beautiful pieces of furniture, a wooden canoe and many outdoor bird feeders. He enjoyed feeding and birdwatching. Survivors include his wife Myrna, two sons Ronald (Jill Humphrey) of Northville, MI; Russell (Jana) of NewLondon, WI; grandson Aaron (Megan) of Walworth, WI; granddaughter Rachel of Miami, FL; great granddaughter Kennley of Walworth, WI; sister in law Mary Ann Burg and cousin Jack Ward both of Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Charlotte Akeson, and brother Albert Burg. George was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, His family was the most important thing for him. He will be greatly missed by all. His family wants to thank the staff at Sunrise and Hospice of Siouxland for all their help and loving care for George. Also to Rev.
