Edna "Jeanne" Paulsen, 89, of Sioux City, passed away on Monday, February 9, 2015 at Regency Square Nursing Home in South Sioux City, NE. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 13, 2015 at Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. James Travis officiating. Burial will in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation will be Thursday, February 12, 2015 from 4-8 p.m. with family present from 6-8 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Jeanne was born on March 24, 1925 in Albaton, IA to Hans and Edna Louise (Solien) Friis. She graduated from Sloan High School. Jeanne worked as a teletypist for Western Union, Sears and Swift & Co., where she was one of the survivors of the 1949 explosion. Jeanne was united in marriage to Vertis Paulsen on September 10, 1949 in Albaton, IA. Jeanne enjoyed camping and was a longtime member of the Good Sam's Camping Club. She also enjoyed playing 500 in her free time. Jeanne is survived by her husband Vertis Paulsen of Sioux City; two sons Jeffrey H. (Rebecca) Paulsen of Sioux City; and Joseph B. Paulsen (Pat Kilburn) of Sioux City; daughter Linda (Randy) DeRoin of South Sioux City, NE; seven grandchildren: Jason Paulsen, Heidi Ippensen, Alyssa Paulsen, Karen Paulsen, Anne Fuchtman, Christopher DeRoin, and Claire DeRoin; and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Mary Lou Worrell and a brother, Robert Friis.
