John D. Ellis, 87 of Austin, TX and formerly of Sioux City passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at a Cedar Park TX hospital after a brief illness. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home. John was born July 31, 1927 in Ralston, NE; he was the son of Frank and Edith (McCoy) Ellis. John grew up in Ralston and in Omaha and attended South High School in Omaha. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and the Korean Conflict. John married Francine M. Petrositsh Sept. 19, 1950 in Sioux City, she passed away March 27, 2004 in Sioux City. John held various jobs in Sioux City and was on the fire department before retiring form IBP (now Tyson Foods). He was a member of the Union Garden and helped with military funeral honors. In his younger years, John was a member of the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed golfing, stock car races, hill climbing and air shows. Survivors include 6 children: Glenda Ellis of Sioux City, Carol Ellis of Philadelphia, PA, Janet Johnson (Scott) of Austin, TX, Deana Nolan of Philadelphia, PA, Daniel Ellis (Janice) of Austin, TX, and Rhonda Ellis of Philadelphia, PA; 9 grandchildren: Raquel Hubbard, Jarred and Alan Johnson, Johnny, Ben, Devon, and Nate Ellis, Ryan and Kevin Nolen; 2 great grandchildren: Joseph and Dustin Hubbard. John was preceded in death by his parents, wife Francine, brother Bill and sister Donna
