Wayne W. Ducommun, 87 of Sioux City, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at his residence comforted by family. Abiding by family wishes, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 26, 2015 at the Westminster Presbyterian Church with Reverend Dr. John Pehrson officiating. Visitation will be today, Sunday, January 25th from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the church with a Prayer Service beginning at 6:00 p.m. this evening. Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Wayne was born on December 30, 1927 in Cleghorn, Iowa to Edward and Opal (Swanson) Ducommun. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Iowa State University in Agricultural Engineering in 1949. Wayne served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was an instructor in Etta Jima, Japan for construction of roads and bridges. In 1952, Wayne started working for Duke's Radio in Sioux City and remained there until starting his career as a project engineer with the Soil Conservation Service in 1957. He married Jeri Roland on December 3, 1955 in Sioux City. His final project, after 30 years of service, was the Bacon Creek Project. Wayne retired as an area engineer for N.W. Iowa designing dams and water sheds. Following his retirement, Wayne worked at the Siouxland Center For Active Generations as a counselor until 2013, assisting others with tax preparation, and offering financial advice for 29 years. Wayne was a member of Sioux City Engineer's Club, and was a trustee for the Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he also designed the landscape for the new church. Wayne is survived by his wife Jeri of Sioux City; children Karen (Ron) Powell Edina, MN, Tom (Marian) Ducommun of Naperville, IL, and Kurt Ducommun of Sioux City; and granddaughters Sarah (Kevin) Bennett, Amy Powell, and Emily Yockey Ducommun. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, sister Joyce Lockwood, and brother Galen.
