Kathy K. Gnewuch

SIOUX CITY | Kathleen K. "Kathy" Gnewuch, 69, of Sioux City, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2015 at a local hospital after a brief illness. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015 at Holy Spirit Retirement Home Chapel with Rev. Dennis Meinen officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday with the family present 6-7 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m. all at Holy Spirit Chapel. Condolences may be sent online at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Kathy was born Nov. 2, 1945 in Slayton, Minn. the daughter of John and Regina (Murphy) Hofstader. She grew up in Estherville, IA where she graduated from high school. Kathy moved to Sioux City where her daughter, Julie was born. On Apr. 20, 1968 she married Tim Lester and 2 sons, Tim and Brian were born. Kathy worked at the Townhouse for 27 years. She also was employed by the Sioux City Community School District for 11 years, retiring 5 years ago. She married Terry Gnewuch on December 27, 1980 in Sioux City. Kathy was an active member of Calix. She was an avid gardener and was also a friend of Bill W. Kathy will be remembered as the most amazing mom and grandmother who enjoyed attending their school and sports activities. Survivors include her husband, Terry; 3 children, Julie Jordyn and Joe of Kansas City, MO, Tim Lester and Cindy and Brian Lester and Ginger all of Sioux City; her mother, Jeanne Hofstader of Estherville, IA; a brother, Gary Hofstader and his wife, Diane of Wallingford, IA; a sister, Dianna Howard of Carson City, NV; 7 grandchildren, Zachary Nading, Kristin Hughes, Mersades Lester, Brandon Colner, Jordon Colner, Avery Lester and Whitney Lester; 4 great-grandchildren, Andrew, Kayden, Lucy and Davien; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, John Hofstader, a sister, Bonnie Geick and mother-in-law, Leona O'Boyle. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
