James Robert "Jim" O'Connor, Jr.

December 23, 1943 — January 18, 2015

Jim O'Connor, 71 of Sioux City, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at the Regency Square Care Center in South Sioux City, surrounded by his family and friends, including his lap-buddy "Princess". Abiding by Jim's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family Memorial Service has been scheduled. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com Jim was born on December 23, 1943 in Sioux City to James R. O'Connor, Sr. and Joyce (Jensen) Bergstrom. He received his education in Sioux City, graduating from East High School. Jim served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Jim married JoEllen Martinsen on February 17, 1978 in Elk Point, South Dakota. He was an over-the-road driver being a member of the Teamsters Union, and retired from Roadway Express in 2006. Jim enjoyed walleye fishing all over the United States and Canada with his friends and family. His favorite place to be was the Missouri River System, especially from West Bend on Lake Sharpe to North Wheeler on Lake Francis Case. He also enjoyed home renovations, and working on cars and trucks. Jim is survived by his wife JoEllen of Sioux City; son Brian O'Connor (Laura) of Sioux City; son Daniel O'Connor (Kristen) of Clinton, Iowa; daughter Julie Howard of Canon City, Colorado; grandchildren Luke Mize, Trey Howard, Samuel, Carly and Grace O'Connor, Madison and Marissa Heth, and Kristen Barnes; two great-grandchildren; sisters Keeren and her husband Denny and Becky and her husband John; brother Jeff and his wife Anita. Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
