Donald E. "Don" Haskins, 86, of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2015 at a local hospital. Visitation will be on Sunday, January 11, 2015 from 4 to 7 P.M. with family present 5 to 7 P.M. and a time of sharing at 6 P.M. all at the church. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 12, 2015 at Southern Hills Baptist Church. Burial will be at Graceland Park Cemetery. Donald was born the son of Horace and Sylvia (Hughes) Haskins on January 24, 1928 in Burbank, California. He attended Military High School where he graduated in 1946. In 1946-1948 he attended Loyola Jr. College in Loyola, California. He then enlisted into the Army Air Corp in Hollywood, California where he served 18 months after WW II was over. He was stationed at Fort Ord and in San Francisco, California. In 1950, Don attended Norfolk Jr. College then Wayne State College. He graduated from Wayne State College with a teaching degree 1953. He met the love of his life, Shirley, in 1954. Don married Shirley Wilcox on January 21, 1955 in Sioux City. Don taught business courses in Stewart, Newcastle, and Correctionville before settling in Sioux City in 1962 and teaching at East High School until 1993 when he retired. A teacher for 40 years, inspired two generations to continue in his footsteps as educators. Don also sold monuments for Watertown Monuments Company. Don enjoyed watching his favorite football team the Nebraska Cornhuskers, reading books, dancing the two-step, taking care of the pool, and spending time with his family. He was a member of Southern Hills Baptist Church. Don is survived by his wife, Shirley Haskins of Sioux City; one son Steve Haskins of Sioux City; five daughters, Lori Deal of Venice, FL, Doneen (Gary) Conaway of Sioux City, Pamela McGarr of Prairie Village, KS, Andrea (Kevin) Gray of Sioux City, and Christine (Steve) Paxson of Bloomington, IL; 14 grandchildren, Seth, Harvey III, Shurie, Chad (Jessyca), Jason (Bao Tran), Jacob, Valerie (Andrew), Heather (Jeremy), Michelle (Ryan), Derek, Joshua, Ali, Emma, and Will; and four great-grandchildren, Reese, Riley, Evan, and Mia. Don is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Edward and Richard.
