Donald G. Maloney

Donald G. Maloney, 93, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014, at his home. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. John Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Donald was born Mar. 10, 1921, in Hinton, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Nona Viola (Luce) Maloney. He graduated from Jefferson (S.D.) High School and Tri-State College of Commerce. He married Karene Peck on Feb. 13, 1943, in Hawarden, Iowa. Don served in World War II with the Air Corps of the United States Air Force. Following his service, Don and Karene moved to Sioux City in 1946 and raised a family at 3130 Iowa St. for 48 years before moving in 1994. Don owned and operated Electric Engineering for 35 years until his retirement. Following his retirement, he worked at Pitney Bowes for three years, Odell Electric for five years and Halman Construction Inc. and up until his illness this year, Don was a valued co-worker and friend to the Halman Construction family. Don was a member of the Lions Club, where he held the positions of district governor, zone chairman and state convention chairman. He was past president of the State Electrical Association, Sioux City Construction League, Sioux City Electrical Contractors, Sioux City Business Leaders Association, St. John Lutheran Church Congregation and Youth Baseball Association. Don was also a member of St. John Lutheran Church Congregation, Woodbury County Civil Service Board and Sioux City's first Youth Commission. Don enjoyed hobbies in his free time, golfing, working, sports, working and gardening. Don is survived by children, Mike of Topeka, Kan., Mary Lacey and Barb Maloney (daughter-in-law); grandchildren, James, Shelley, Lori, Amy (Cody), Amber (Thane) and Jessica; and great-grandchildren, Jayson, Austin, Madison, Carter, Asher and Eden. Don was preceded in death by all of his immediate family except cousin, Jim and Candy Luce. Memorials may be given in his name to St. John Lutheran Church.
