Karla Ann (Schwarz) Wickstrom, 71 of Hinton, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2014, after a brief and unexpected illness. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2015, at Calvary Lutheran Church, 4400 Central Street, in Sioux City. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at 10 a.m. at the church. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements and online condolences may be offer at www.meyerbroschapels.com Karla was born on April 2, 1943, in Omaha, NE to J.C. and Helen Schwarz. She attended and graduated from Bloomfield High School, in Bloomfield, NE. She graduated from business school in Sioux City, IA. Karla married Douglas P. Wickstrom on March 4, 1967, in Bloomfield, NE. They had two daughters, Denise (David) Bleeker of Pekin, IL and Rebecca Wickstrom of Littleton, CO. Karla was a Tupperware dealer in Sioux City for more than 30 years, including becoming a manager within the program for a number of years. Karla bowled at the Plaza Bowl for over 40 years, making countless life-long friends. She bowled until the last week of her life. Karla and Doug were also members of a card club with their neighbors, enjoying their time with friends. Karla and Doug enjoyed traveling, spending part of their winter in Arizona and Las Vegas every year. They traveled to Washington DC and to Branson and Okoboji each year as well with family and friends. Karla loved to watch her grandsons compete in sports and attended many football and wrestling matches over the years. Karla found new independence in the two years that Doug was gone, learning to drive in big cities and navigate to new places. She continued to bowl and to be a member of her card club. Her presence will be sorely missed. Karla leaves behind her two daughters, Denise and Rebecca, as well as her two grandsons, Alexander and Matthew. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
