Victor V. Voloshen, 86 of Sioux City passed away Sunday December 28, 2014 at his residence. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday January 5, 2015 at St. Thomas Syrian Orthodox Church. Visitation will be Sunday January 4, 2015 form 5 till 7 p.m. with a Trisagion service at 7:00 p.m. at the church with Fr. Lucas Rice officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery Vic was born January 22, 1928 in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Edward and Anna M. (Smith) Voloshen. He was a lifelong resident of Sioux City. Vic graduated from East High School in the class of 1947 and participated on many athletic teams. He was first team All City in basketball. After graduation Vic worked several jobs until serving in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952. In the Army he was an instructor in mountaineering and skiing. After returning home, he went to work for Swift & Co. meat packers until his retirement in 1984. Vic was a member of the Syrian Orthodox Church in Sioux City. He was a member of the American Legion Post 64. Vic enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and yard work. Survivors include his former wife, Tasha (Cherkas) Voloshen; two step-daughters, Tanya & Joshua Simpson of Sgt. Bluff, IA and Oksana & Aaron Buck of Oxnard, CA. Also, a sister, Lucille Kleckner of Mantua, OH and a brother Mike & Bonnie Voloshen of Sioux City. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Walter, John, Frank and Edward Voloshen in infancy; and a sister Anne Clinkenbeard. Paul bearers will be Mike Kleckner, Lawrence Neilsen, Ed Voloshen, Jim Neilsen, Vladimir Zhylka and and Dan DeSmet.
