Adele A. Sorensen (Kirkpatrick), 80, went to her heavenly home on December 22, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center, Sioux City, Iowa, surround by loved ones. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 29, 2014 at Westminster Presbyterian Church with Reverend Dr. John Pehrson officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be today, Sunday, December 28th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel with family present at 5:00 p.m. and a Prayer Service starts at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com Adele was the only child born to Alva and Inez (Hively) Kirkpatrick in Omaha, NE on April 25, 1934. She graduated from Sioux City East High School in 1952, then from Morningside College in 1956, and was still active in organizing class reunions. Adele began her teaching career in 1969 and taught for 25 years. She taught Reading and English at both West Junior and East Junior High Schools. She loved teaching, and had such a passion for her students, as well as the wonderful staff she taught with. Adele retired in 1993, but remained active in the Retired Teacher's Association. Adele was a long time member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she served in numerous capacities. She loved Cutter's Club, Circle and Bible studies at the church as well. Adele and her husband, Irv Sorensen, were married on March 3, 1956. To this union they became the parents of Kirk Patrick and Carol Ann. Adele had a great passion for flowers, reading, and crossword puzzles. She always loved a challenge and she never stopped learning. Adele enjoyed playing bridge, enjoyed book clubs, and enjoyed going to exercise class. She had so many wonderful friends that she adored, and loved every bit of precious time spent with them. Adele's greatest passion was her family. She enjoyed any moments at all that she could spend with them. Adele loved taking family trips, picnics and attending her grandchildren's activities. She treasured cooking, baking and visiting with her grandchildren and loved playing all sorts of games with them. Adele always had a smile, a wonderful attitude toward life and was very giving of herself. She is survived by her two children; Kirk and his wife Beth of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, and Carol and her husband Dan Koithan of Mapleton, Iowa. She has seven grandchildren, David, Jeff, Ben, Eric, Alisa and Joey Koithan. Makayla Sorensen-Montoya and one great-grandchild, Abigail Montoya. Adele was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Irv in 2009.
