SIOUX CITY | Dr. William R. Hollander, DDS, MSD, 80, of Sioux City died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014 at a local hospital after a brief illness. VISITATION will be held at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, located at 3220 Stone Park Blvd., in Sioux City from 4-8 p.m. Sunday with the family present from 5:30-8 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m., followed by a Masonic service officiated by Morningside Lodge #615 A.F & A.M. SERVICES will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 2014 at First United Methodist Church, located at 1915 Nebraska St. in Sioux City with Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Graveside services and burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Sheldon, IA. at East Lawn Cemetery. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Dr. Hollander was born Sept. 12, 1934 in Evanston, IL to Ralph C. and Agnes A., (Redfern), Hollander. He grew up in Sheldon, Iowa and graduated from Sheldon high school in 1952. On June 19, 1955 he married Carol M. Blessing in Paullina, IA. and together they raised three sons and a daughter. In 1958 he received his DDS degree from the University of Iowa and practiced General Dentistry in Sioux City from 1958 to 1965. Dr. Hollander then received his MSD degree in 1967 from the University of Nebraska and consequently specialized in Periodontics in Sioux City until his retirement in 2004. Dr. Hollander was a part time Assistant Clinical Professor at the Univ. of Nebraska from 1968-1969 and held a part time Assistant Professor position at the Univ. of South Dakota from 1970-1977. He also held several honorable positions with his professional memberships and was awarded many honors and awards throughout his career. His community associations included the Sioux City Kiwanis Club, 1959-present, Masons (32nd degree), Sioux City Consistory and he was a 51 year member of the Abu Bekr Shrine and their brass band. Dr. Hollander was a member of the Sioux City Municipal Band, was an active leader in the Boy Scouts of America, was a member of the Woodbury County Sheriffs Reserve from 1999-2007, and has been a lifelong member of the Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife Carol of 59-1/2 years, sons William S. Hollander of Bartlesville, OK; Scott Hollander and wife, Joyce of Clovis, CA; Todd Hollander and wife Theresa of Mandeville, LA; daughter Vicki Rupp and husband Peter of Overland Park, KS; brothers Dr. Richard Hollander of Midwest City, OK and Ralph Hollander of Sun City, AZ. He is also survived by seven grandsons: Luke Rupp and William G., Benjamin, Blake, Steven, Spencer and Alex Hollander; three granddaughters, Sierra Hollander, and Emily and Rachel Rupp. Dr. Hollander is also survived by six great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and his honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters. Dr. Hollander was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Agnes Hollander.
