Wilbert Lines, age 95, known to many of his friends as "Tiny," died of natural causes early on the morning of Saturday, December 20, 2014, at Westwood Nursing Home in Sioux City. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Saturday, December 27, 2014, at Meyer Brother Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Reverend Merrill Muller will officiate. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Wilbert resided in Moville, Iowa, on his farm from 1956 until three years ago when he moved to Westwood Assisted Living. Wilbert was born on December 18, 1919, to Rufus Lines and Hazel Ficken Lines in Luton, Iowa, and was the third of four children. Wilbert graduated high school from Luton and began working as a farmhand. In 1939, he began working for the Civilian Conservation Corps. Wilbert served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 as a heavy machinery mechanic and was stationed in Tewkesbury, a small town in Gloucestershire, England. Upon receiving his honorable discharge, Wilbert returned to Iowa to work as truck driver for Armours Meat Packing Company. Wilbert married Tessie Gray in May of 1946 at Elk Point, South Dakota. In 1956, Wilbert and Tessie relocated their family from Sioux City to Moville, Iowa, where Wilbert farmed until his retirement. Wilbert had a vast array of knowledge regarding plants, flowers and nature in general, that came with his long years earning his living from the land. Other interests and hobbies Wilbert enjoyed throughout his life included: woodworking, fishing, and movies. For many, Wilbert can best be pictured in his chair watching a game, be it football, basketball, or golf with a dog laying at his feet. He had an unquestionable love for pets who gave him loyal companionship in his later years. Wilbert, although quiet, left this life with a deep insight on human nature and the world at large. For those who knew and loved him, Wilbert's quiet intelligence and wisdom will be forever missed but will always be remembered. While at Westwood, he enjoyed joking with and teasing the nurses and aides. Wilbert is survived by two daughters Nancy Bishop(Tom) of Sioux City and Claire Ream(Bob) of Wichita, Kansas; and a son Dennis Lines(Lisa) of Sioux City; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; a son William Henry Lines; sisters Myrna Lines Cox and Arlene Lines Hildebrand and a brother Darrell "Bud" Lines. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Humane Society.
