Edward C. Motz

SIOUX CITY | Edward C. Motz, 91, of Sioux City died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014 at Holy Spirit Retirement Home. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27th at St. Michael Catholic Church with Rev. David Hemann and Rev. Eugene Murray concelebrating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday with the family present 6-8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m. all at the church Condolences may be sent online at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is assisting with arrangements. Ed was born July 16, 1923 in Sioux City the son of Louis and Justine (Berguson) Motz and was a lifelong resident of Sioux City. He attended Sioux City Public Schools and graduated from East High School in 1941. He attended University of Nebraska and Morningside College graduating in 1949. He served with the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theater, including Italy, Po Valley and North Apennines. He also served in the Aleutian Islands before his discharge. Ed was awarded two Bronze Service Stars. He was honorably discharge in 1946. On August 8, 1949 he married Mary Elizabeth Murray in Storm Lake, IA. Together they raised four sons and a daughter. Ed was the deputy Woodbury County Auditor and subsequently worked for the City of Sioux City at the Chief Real Estate Property Officer, a position he held for 27 years. He was most proud of his role in acquiring the land for the relocated Floyd River Channel and the Bacon Creek Watershed Project. For many years Ed helped coach Little League Baseball. He served on the board of the Municipal Credit Union for several years. Ed loved to golf and played on the city's golf league. The couple enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends in their retirement years. Survivors include his wife of over 65 years, Mary; 4 sons and their wives, Rick and Mary Motz, Bob and Jean Motz all of Sioux City, Dr. Denny and Jan Motz of Sioux Falls, SD and Bill and Deb Motz of San Antonio, TX; a son-in-law, Dr. Rick Davidson of Tuscola, IL; a "borrowed son" Cesar Narvaez of Sioux City; 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn Davidson, his parents and a brother, Frederick. Pallbearers will be Craig Motz, Jeff Motz, Curtis Motz, Christopher Motz, Zach Davidson and Thomas Motz. Memorials may be made in his name to St. Michael Catholic Church or Holy Spirit Retirement Home.
