Wanda Irene Nelson, age 86 of Sioux City, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014 at her home. Services will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014 with the Rev. Dr. Tom Murray officiating at the First Presbyterian Church, 608 Nebraska Street and Rev. David Weesner of United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday with the family present 6-8 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, 3220 Stone Park Blvd. Private burial in Logan Park Cemetery. Condolences may be sent online at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Wanda was the daughter of George A. and Agnes P. (Tobin) Weesner. She was raised on the family farm and attended Jackson Number 2 School through 8th grade in Madison County, Iowa. In 1945, she graduated from Earlham High School. Following graduation, she worked as secretary to the superintendent of that county school. From 1947 to 1949 she attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa, and was employed in the Dean's office at the college. There she met her future husband, John W. Glasson. They were married August 7, 1950. For the first nine years of their marriage they lived in Cherokee, Iowa, where their four children were born. In 1959, they moved to Sioux City. When her children were in school, Wanda took a job doing medical transcription in a doctor's office. In 1977, she became employed at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in the administrative office. In 1979, she became affiliated with the National Secretaries' Association, also known as Professional Secretaries International. She retired in 1993. Wanda enjoyed working in her flower garden, becoming a Master Gardener from the Iowa State Extension Service Certification program in 1996. She belonged to the Sioux City Garden Club. She was also a member of Sioux City Federated Women's Club and the Red Hat Society. Volunteering was a large part of her life. She enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends. She was a 50 year member of First Presbyterian Church. In May of 2000 she married Warren (Bud) Nelson. They enjoyed traveling throughout the U. S. Several winters were spent in warmer climates enjoying visiting with friends. Wanda is survived by her husband, Warren. Her four children are Lynn Johnson of Pagosa Springs, Colorado, and her children Jeffrey of Durango and Kelly Johnson Fielding of Denver: Dan Glasson (Diane) of Sioux City and their children, Deborah Nacke Glasson of Sioux City and Dan Jr. of Chicago; Carol Glasson of Edwards, Colorado; Paul Glasson and his son Jacob of Sioux City. She is also survived by one cherished great granddaughter, Lauren Nacke of Sioux City. Step-children are: Mary Kim Page (Luke) of Lakewood, Colorado, and their children Eric Page of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and Brian Page of Reno, Nevada; Beth Sheets (Wally) of Sarasota, Florida; Blake Nelson (Paula) and their sons Ben and Jake of Kent, Ohio; Scott Nelson and his sons Zach, Alex, and Max of Highlands Ranch, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, and her only sibling, Beverly Hayes Anderson. Memorials should be sent to the First Presbyterian Church or to the Shepherd's Garden.
