G. Esther Flammang

G. Esther Flammang, 95 of Sioux City, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at the Holy Spirit Retirement Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday at the Church of the Nativity. Rev. Gerald Feierfiel and Esther's Godson, Deacon Kent Sachau will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. Friday with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. and a Vigil Service at 6:30 P.M. Friday all at the Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Esther was born June 10, 1919 near Lawton, IA; she was the daughter of Ray and Gertrude (Johnson) Glover. She attended rural school in Banner Township and graduated from Lawton High School in 1935. Esther attended Wayne State Teachers College and NBT Business School in Sioux City. She worked as a secretary to County Superintendent of Schools, Mr. C.G. Hadley, and worked at Robb-Ross Foods in Sioux City. She taught school for a total of 16 years in Concord Township rural school, Linn Grove, IA elementary and St. Joseph's Catholic School in Sioux City. On November 20, 1944, she was united in marriage to Edgar Flammang at the Immaculate Conception Church rectory in Sioux City. They farmed for 37 years in the Lawton area, moving to Sioux City in 1984. Esther resided at Holy Spirit Retirement Home since 2011. She was a member of the Church of the Nativity Catholic Church, the Women's Guild, Carmel Guild, Confraternity of Christian Mothers, a 63 year member of Unit #718 American Legion Auxiliary, National Retired Teachers Association, F.A.N. Women's Club, 500 card club, and a member of the Siouxland Center for Active Generations. Although she enjoyed traveling, dancing, and playing cards, her most treasured memories included raising her family and being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include four children: Kevin Flammang (Diane) of Orange City, Kristin Klug (Kenny) of South Sioux City, Kirk Flammang (Nancy) of Lawton, Kerry Ruehle of Sioux City; grandchildren: Lisa Heck (Kyan), Laura Benson (Matthew), Jenny Flammang and her fiancé, Adam Weaver, Dr. Rhett Ruehle (Maren), Ashley Locke (Daniel), Nathan Ruehle and his fiancé Sarah Sitzmann, Jessica Campbell (Dustin), Jennifer VandeVegte (Terry), Peter Vonk (Jaimee), Karen Hubbling (Dustin); great grandchildren: Braden and Kyli Heck, Wesley and Lilly Benson, Brecken Ruehle, Quinn Campbell, Carter, Graham, Micah and Rylan VandeVegte, Peter (Jr.) and Jude Vonk, Hallie Pergande and Leighton, Abrianna, and Bella Hubbling; one sister: Venona Schneider (Leonard) of Kennewick, WA. Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents are her husband of 67 years, Edgar, a son-in-law, Michael Ruehle, brothers: E.L. (Bud) Glover, J.R. (Jay) Glover, E.R. (Dick) Glover and J.W. (Bill) Glover. The family would like to thank Holy Spirit Retirement Home for the excellent care they gave to their mother and also Hospice of Siouxland for their support and care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made out to the family to be designated at a later date.
