HINTON | Michael J. "Mike" Goosmann, 64, of Hinton, IA passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014 at a Sioux City hospital. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Mike's cousin, Pastor Keith Byers of Correctionville, IA officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday with the family present 6-8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Mike was born May 14, 1950 to Kenneth and Joyce (Foster) Goosmann in Correctionville, Iowa. He graduated from Central High School in 1968. He married Joline Cunningham on June 13, 1970. Together Mike and Joline had two sons, Kelly and Jay. Mike owned and operated Meier Salvage along with his brother, Dan Goosmann for 24 years. Mike retired in Sept. of 2013. Mike was an avid racer. He raced stock cars in the early 70's and then later modifieds at Buena Vista Raceway, Park Jefferson and Interstate Speedway. His son, Kelly followed in his footsteps, and Jay soon after. Mike enjoyed playing poker, fishing, going to the races and casinos and hanging out at Shooter's Paradise in his spare time. He loved watching his granddaughters, Madison and Tayler play sports. He was at every one of their practices and games. He was their #1 fan. Survivors include his wife, Joline; his son, Jay and his wife Autumn and two granddaughters, Madison and Tayler all of Merrill; his mother, Joyce Goosmann of Sioux City; his siblings, Doug (Sherry) Goosmann of Jefferson, SD, Dan (Micky) Goosmann of Sioux City; Karen (Mike) DeRocher of Merrill, IA and Dennis Goosmann of Sioux City; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Kelly Goosmann, his father, Kenneth Goosmann and his father-in-law, Leon Cunningham. He will be missed by many. Pallbearers will be Dustin Goosmann, Chad Goosmann, John Schneider, Chuck Heckler, Scott Woodside and Shane Stokes.
