Janet L. Hansen, 76 of Sioux City passed away on Friday, December 5, 2014 at the Casa de Paz Care Center after brief illness. Services will be at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux City. Rev. David A. Hemann will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. Tuesday with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. and a Vigil Service at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Janet was born March 9, 1938 in Carroll, IA; she was the daughter of Warren and Ivetta (Kerwood) Hesslingh. Janet attended Hawthorne Grade School and graduated from Leeds High School. She married Charles R. "Dick" Hansen June 29, 1957 in Sioux City; he died December 9, 2012 in Sioux City. Janet worked at the Salvation Army, Hagen Trucking and then for 34 years at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and served on the Leeds High School Reunion Committee. Janet enjoyed crafts, ceramics, wood painting and playing cards. When she was younger, Janet enjoyed bowling. She liked to go to breakfast at her sister in law's Virginia Hurni on Saturday mornings. Survivors include her 3 children: Christine Hawkinson (Steve) of Sioux City, William Lee Hansen (Julie) of Sioux City, Andrea Jacobsen (Chris) of Papillion, NE; her sister: Norma Morley of Papillion, NE; 3 grandchildren: Amanda Collins (Nick), Jason Hawkinson, Tyler Hansen (Jessica); 3 great grandchildren: Jayden, Arabella and Shaynee. Janet was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Dick. Pallbearers will be Tyler Hansen, Kevin and Joe Prue, Joe Morley, Jason Hawkinson and Curtis Gaskell.
