Jean Norby, age 84 of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 1, 2014, at St. Luke's Unity Point in Sioux City. Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, December 5, 2014, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home Chapel. Fr. Dennis Meinen will officiate. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday with family present from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and a Vigil Service at 7:00 P.M. led by Father David Hemann at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Norby, daughter of Joseph and Rose (Jezek) Rokusek, was born August 21, 1930, in Scotland, South Dakota, where she also graduated from high School. After high school, Jean attended Business College in Sioux City. On December 15, 1956, Jean was united in marriage with Donald Norby in Luverne, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Sioux City. Jean was a stay at home mom while the kids were growing up. She then worked various clerical jobs in Sioux City and did daycare in her home. Jean was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and was active with its prayer chains and funeral committee. She was also very active in numerous charities. Jean liked to sew, knit, crochet and do yard work. In 2014, Jean became a resident of Holy Spirit Retirement Home due to Alzheimer's disease. Jean is survived by her husband Donald Norby of Sioux City; three sons: David Norby (Kenna) of McCook Lake, SD; Randy Norby of Sioux City and Ronald Norby (Bobbette) of Sioux City; a daughter LeAnn Hanson (Rodney) of Sioux City; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; son James Norby; daughter-in-law Linda Norby; four brothers; two sisters: Irene and Jean's twin Jane.
