Charles L. Heath, Jr., 87, of Sioux City passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2014 at a Sioux City Hospital. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Third Presbyterian Church with Rev. Cathie Bishop officiating. Military graveside honors will be at Memorial Park Cemetery by the US Naval Reserves. Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 from 4-8 p.m. with family present from 6-8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Charles was born on October 21, 1927 in Correctionville, IA to Charles L. and Trula (Fugate) Heath, Sr. He graduated from Central High School and attended Morningside College. He served his country in the US Navy during World War II. After returning from the military Charles and Shirley Hartz were united in marriage on September 19, 1950 in Sioux City. To this union three sons were born, Gary, Roger and Michael. Charles devoted his entire life to farming and taking care of the land and livestock. Charles was a member of Third Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and trustee. Charles enjoyed golf, fishing, playing cards, and gardening. In his retirement he took great pride in taking care and maintaining the family farm. Charles is survived by his wife Shirley Heath of Sioux City; 3 sons Gary Heath of Lawton, IA; Roger Heath of Olathe, KS; and Michael (Terri) Heath of Watkinsville, GA; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren; brother Darloe (Shirley) Heath of Sioux City; brother-in-law Lyle (Francis) Hartz of Hinton, IA; sister-in-law Marlene Hartz of Sioux Falls, SD; brother-in-law Vernon (Linda) Brice of Lawton, IA and many nieces and nephews. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, brother; Robert Heath, brother in-law Kenneth Hartz, one nephew Dennis Hartz, and infant grandson. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the physicians and staff at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.
