Eugene O. Morton

Eugene O. Morton, 82, of Sioux City passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at Holy Spirit Retirement Home. Funeral services will be on Monday, November 24, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel with Rev. Kelly Turney officiating. Military graveside rites will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 24, 2014 by the Cherokee American Legion will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee, IA. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com Eugene was born on October 6, 1932 in Cherokee, IA to Leo Eugene and Alice Mae (Haley) Morton. He graduated from Cherokee High School in 1951 and later in life earned an associate's degree from WITT. He served his country in US Army during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Joann Meister in 1956. Eugene was in the grocer retail business and retired from working as a Supervisor of Environmental Services for both the Marian Health Center and Surgery Center. In Eugene's free time, he enjoyed camping, fishing, and golfing. Later in life he enjoyed passing the time playing his synthesizer keyboard. Above all the joys in his life, spending time with his family was always his greatest joy. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Sioux City. He is survived by his wife Joann Morton; daughter Jean Ann Fink; sons Dan (Melody) Morton and Bill Morton; 6 grandchildren Michael, Shane, Stacey, Derek, Kaylee and Jacob and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters and a son-in-law.
