John S. Butler, 83, of Salix, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at a local hospital. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Visitation will be Friday, November 21, 2014 from 4 to 8 P.M. with family present from 6 to 8 P.M. and a prayer service at 7 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences can be directed to meyerbroschapels.com. John was born the son of John and Florence (Wharton) Butler on July 30, 1931 in Sioux City, Iowa. He graduated from Central High School. John married Phyllis Mae Hendrickson on September 4, 1960 in Humboldt, Iowa. John retired from Armour after 30 years as a butcher. He enjoyed golf, bowling, softball, gardening, and watching his grandchildren's sporting events. John honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict as a medic. John is survived by his wife, Phyllis Butler of Salix; children, John (Malaeng) Butler of Narvarre, Florida, Jenise Trappe of Mason City, Iowa, and Jeff (Carrie) Butler of Whiting; two brothers, Wallace (Charlotte) Butler of Sioux City and Bill (Kay) Keairns of Sioux City; two sisters, Donnafae Dean of Sioux City and Lois Appel of Texas; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Bill; two brothers, Jimmy and Kenny; and an infant granddaughter at birth.
