Peter was born April 15, 1930 in Kotovazana, Greece; he was the son of Spero and Kalliroe (Christopoulis) Vlahoulis. Peter came to the United States in 1957 after serving in the Greek Army during the Korean Conflict. He settled in Sioux City where he was sponsored by his Uncle Bill, Aunt Martha and cousins John and Andy Vlahoulis. Peter was proud of his Greek-American heritage and was very active at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. He was a chanter for 50 years, served as congregation president and served as AHEPA president. He was also active in the semi-annual dinners, taught Greek school and was willing to help our where ever needed. Peter married Mary Pappas June 1, 1961 in Sioux City. Peter was very close to his in-laws. He loved playing cards with his father in law, Nick Pappas, mother in law Kalliope Pappas and his wife, Mary. He assisted Nick, Bessie, Ted and Christina Kyriazes and Chris and Fo Fo Karras as their health deteriorated. Peter was very loyal and dedicated to his loved ones. Peter and Mary owned and operated the Waffle Shop Restaurant in downtown Sioux City for 20 years. Pete developed many lifelong friendships and cherished the fact that his restaurant was a meeting place for family and friends. Peter and Mary raised three children, Nickie, Tom and Spero. He was most proud of his kids and grandchildren. Upon his retirement Peter could be seen at various coffee shops with Mary and his numerous friends. He always enjoyed his time with his cousin Andy, AHEPA brothers John and Gus, Spero G., and Aphrodite, he and Mary's St. Luke's walking friends, and many others. Peter loved to joke with all his friends and family. One of the many highlights of his retirement was returning to Greece with Mary and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter: Nickie Lempka (Patrick) of Lenexa, KS, sons: Tom Vlahoulis (Shannon) of Tucson, AZ, Spero Vlahoulis (Mary Jo) of Sioux City; 6 grandchildren: Princess Kalli, Bo Bo Ryan, Kaitlyn, Sophie, Emma and Kellen.
