James B. Rossiter, Jr., 83, of South Sioux City, NE passed away peacefully with family present on October 30, 2014 at a local hospital. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 3rd 2014 at the Church of The Nativity in Sioux City, IA. The Rev. Steven McLoud will celebrate the memorial mass. Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 2nd, with family present from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. all at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel at 6200 Morningside Ave. in Sioux City. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Jim was born on June 7, 1931, in Omaha, NE, to Effie (Starbuck) and James B. Rossiter Sr. He grew up in Walthill, NE and graduated from Walthill High School in 1949. He spent one and a half years at Creighton University before returning home to work in the local bank upon his father's death. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956 and while stationed at Ft. Bliss in El Paso, TX he married Bonnie Heck of Homer, NE. Jim was very involved in his community serving multiple terms as Mayor of Walthill, President of the Community Club and school Booster Club as well as a volunteer fireman. He was also involved in local politics and served multiple terms on the Thurston County Board of Supervisors. Jim was elected President of the Nebraska Bankers Assoc. and also served as an Aksarben Ambassador. The family moved to Sioux City in 1983 and Jim worked as a life insurance agent prior to working 19 years for the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission, retiring in 2012 at the age of 81. Jim was a devout Catholic and totally committed to his loving family. Besides his family and faith he loved Husker football and the game of golf. Jim was also very proud of his Irish heritage. Jim's life will always be remembered and cherished by his survivors who include his wife of almost 60 years, Bonnie, his sister Frances (Fran) Connealy of Wayne, NE and six children, Jean (Dean) Flaws, of Carlisle, IA, James (Sherri) Rossiter III, of Sioux City, Mary (Dr. Douglas) Barr of So. Sioux City, NE, Michael (Lynn) Rossiter of Sioux City, John (Deanne) Rossiter of Aurora, MN and Mark (Toshia) Rossiter of Urbandale, IA, 14 grandchildren: Michelle (Jeff) Robinson, Emily (Aaron) Serrano, Sarah Flaws, Meagan Flaws, Mackenzie Flaws, Lindsay (TJ) Ernst, Brady (Brooke) Rossiter, Joseph Rossiter, Lauren Barr, Jordan Barr, Elliott Rossiter, Elizabeth Rossiter, Karrigan Rossiter, Riley Rossiter and 11 great-grandchildren: Ethan, Emma and Elli Robinson, Aiden, Olivia and Evan Serrano, Caleb, Adrienne and Josie Ernst, Blake and Bensen Rossiter. He was preceded in death by his parents, James, Sr. and Effie Rossiter and brother-in-law Bill Connealy.
