Harry P. BeVer, 97, of Sioux City passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at Countryside Senior Living. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 24, 2014 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel with Rev. Dan Lozer officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Mr. BeVer was born on January 10, 1917 in Sioux City, Iowa to Henry H. and Myrtle (Hungerford) BeVer. He graduated from Central High School in 1936. He worked at the Sioux City Bowling Alley from 1939 to 1952 except for 3 ½ years while he served time in the US Army during World War II stationed in the South Pacific as a Staff Sgt. He later worked for Under Writer Adjusting Co. as an Insurance Adjuster for 22 ½ years and then worked for the City of Sioux City for 12 years in the Legal Department as a claims investigator. He enjoyed fishing and for many years took trips to Canada to fish. He loved bowling and dancing. He was a 50 year member of the VFW Post 580 and a 50 year member of Siouxland Claimsman Association. He is survived by his grandson Mike Smith of Fort Dodge; great grandson Andy Smith of Fort Dodge and a special friend Betty Langford of Sioux City. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Phyllis Smith, and 2 sisters Lavonne Carlson and Elanor Baugh.
