Richard L. Ballantyne, 84, of Sioux City passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Countryside Senior Living Center. Per his wishes, his body was cremated and services will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Central Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Richard was born on December 5, 1929 in Sioux City to Kenneth and Lydia (Carlberg) Ballantyne. He graduated from Central High School in 1948. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was married to Mae Gunderson in February of 1955, to this union 3 daughters were born. He was later married to Jean McLeran in 1976. She preceded him in death in 2008. Richard and his father owned Ballantyne Keen Korner service station for many years. He also worked for the food service at Zenith and later was a bus driver for Sioux City Transit. Richard loved to work. He loved Sioux City and never knew a stranger. He was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church. He is survived by his 3 daughters Lisa (Doug) Jensen of Phoenix, AZ; Beth (Lance) Quinn of Moorpark, CA; and Amy (Michael) Walsh of Roscommon, Ireland; his first wife Mae Ballantyne of Little Rock, AR; Jean's sons, Michael, Jay, Kelly, and Shawn McLeran; 2 sisters Judy (Marvin) Terry of Chula Vista, CA; and Helen Foreman of WA; 18 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jean Ballantyne, and 4 brothers Kenneth, Donald, Glen and Merle.
