Virginia E. Nelson, 80 of Sioux City, passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Sunrise Retirement Community. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel with the Very Reverend Father Armand J. Bertrand as the officiant. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present, will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning at the funeral home. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com Virginia was born on May 25, 1934 in White Earth, Minnesota to Theodore and Nickoline (Haaland) Stallman. She graduated from Frazee High School with the Class of 1953. Virginia married Nick H. Nelson on October 22, 1955 in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. She worked at numerous bookkeeping and secretarial positions while living in the Marshall, Minnesota area for 17 years. The family moved to Sioux City in 1980, where Virginia and her husband Nick owned and operated the Palmer House Motel until 1991. She enjoyed her membership to the TOPS Group for over 25 years, and kindled many great friendships through the organization. Virginia was loved by everyone, and returned that love to all her family and friends. Virginia is survived by her husband Nick of Sioux City; children Paula Brummond and her husband Greg of Lawton, IA, Bradford Nelson and his wife Lisa of Yorkville, IL, Patti Robinson and her husband Tom of Lawton, IA, and Jason Nelson and his wife Tami of Germantown Hills, IL; 12 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and 3 sisters. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters, and 4 brothers. Casket Bearers for Saturday's service will be grandchildren Jasmine Nelson, Nick Nelson, Ben Nelson, James Brummond, Gregory Brummond, Jordan Brummond, Chad Robinson, and Bryce Robinson. Honorary Bearers will be grandchildren Noah Nelson, Tucker Nelson, Evan Nelson, and Grace Nelson. The family would like to offer a special thanks to Sunrise staff members Ellen and Sandy.
