Helen Clare Davenport, 89 of Sioux City passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at NorthPark Senior Living Community. Services will be at 10:30 A.M. Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Rev. Daniel Rupp will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. Wednesday with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. and a Vigil Service at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday all at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Helen was born July 6, 1925 in Chamberlain, SD; she was the daughter of Howard and Susie (Peddicord) Lockwood. Helen was raised in Chamberlain until the age of 10 when the family moved to Mitchell for 2 years and then to Vermillion in 1938. She graduated from Vermillion High School in 1943 and from the University of South Dakota in 1947 with a degree in business. Helen was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. While attending USD, Helen met Robert Davenport and they were married December 29, 1947. Helen was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the confraternity and the Little Flower Circle of the Church. She served on the Board of the YWCA for 6 years and was head of Y-Wifes of the YWCA for several years. Helen was also a member of the A.A.V.W. for many years and a member of Needle and Notions which met at the Girls Inc. She was a charter member of the Marian Health Center Auxiliary (Now Mercy Medical Center) and had over 8000 volunteer hours over 25 years. Helen belonged to the Crimson Glories Chapter of the Red Hat Society for several years, to T.T. T. Society for over 25 years and the Mystic Study Club for many years. Helen began decorative painting in 1977 and belonged to the Country Crossroads Chapter in Sioux City and the Iowa Decorative Painters in Des Moines, IA. Survivors include her husband Robert of Sioux City, 5 children: John Davenport and his wife Michelle Foster of Paeonian Springs, VA, Steve Davenport of Tucson, AZ, Tom Davenport of Ames, IA, Mark Davenport and his wife Jane of Sioux City, Susan Davenport and her significant other Adrian of Sioux City; 7 grandchildren: Meagan, Sierra, Micha, Melissa, Mandy, Emilee and Kelsey; 7 great grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers: John and Charles Lockwood. Pallbearers will be John, Steve, Tom and Mark Davenport, Adrian Villalobos and Tyler Jelken
