Norman S. Williams

Norman S. Williams, 92, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at a local care center. Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Father Daniel Rupp officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 4-8 P.M. with the family present from 6-8 P.M. and a Vigil Service held at 7:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Norman was born July 23, 1922 in Union, NJ the son of Sidney Thomas and Gwendoline (Wainwright) Williams. He graduated from Union High School and served in the United States Navy during WWII. He met and married Ethel E. Decker in Washington DC while serving in the Navy. They were married February 17, 1945. Norman and Ethel relocated to northwest Iowa in 1949 where they raised their nine children. They moved to Sioux City in 1988. Norman was employed as a USDA federal meat inspector. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, camping club, the Northwest Iowa Wood Carvers, and the Knights of Columbus. Later in life, Norman enjoyed dancing and was a member of the Siouxland Center for Active Generations. Norman is survived by his children: Gwen (Roland) Taylor of Terril, IA, Douglas (JoAnn) Williams of Bronson, IA, Daniel Williams of Sioux City, Steven Williams of Bronson, IA, Ron (Nancy) Williams of Hartley, IA, Therese (Kendall) Jensen of Yacolt, WA, Norma (Charles) Coe of White Plains, MD, Susan (Tim) Throne of Sioux City, and Margaret (Monte) Solma of Sioux Falls, SD; 22 Grandchildren; 40 Great Grandchildren; and a brother Kenneth (Gwen) Williams of New York. He was preceded in death by his wife Ethel, a granddaughter Miranda Jensen, two brothers Harry and Art Williams, and a sister Dorothy. Memorials may be given to Hospice of Siouxland or the Holy Spirit Building Fund in Norman's memory.
