John F. Bishop, Sr. 76 of Sioux City passed away suddenly on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at his residence. Services will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. Monday with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. and a vigil service at 7:00 P.M. Monday all at the funeral home. John was born March 7, 1938 in Ponca, NE; he was the son of Burley and Gladys (Copenhaver) Bishop. The family lived in Martinsburg and Ponca before coming to Sioux City when John was in his early teens. John married Johanna McKnight August 29, 1959 and had two children. John worked at various packing houses including IBP and ended his career at St. Luke's Hospital. Survivors include his son: John F. Bishop, Jr and his wife Sally of LaVista, NE; his daughter: Joanna Abramo of Sioux City; 5 sisters: Dorothy Price of Tampa, FL, Helen Fredrickson of Lawton, IA, Gustina Heintz of Omaha, NE, Blanche Davis of Las Vegas, NV and Lucille Erisman of Glenwood, IA; 1 brother: Patrick Hute of Randolph, IA; 6 grandchildren: Jana Griffis and her husband Joseph, Jay Bishop, Zachary Bishop, Jessie, Jennie and Josie Abramo. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a sister Rose Fisher. Pallbearers will be Jay Bishop, Zachary Bishop, Joseph Griffis, Richard Fisher Jr., Doug Grant, and Terry Grant.
