Seigure B. Mathistad, 90, of Sioux City passed away Monday, August 25, 2014 after a brief illness in Sioux City. Per his wishes his body was cremated and the family will be having a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 29, 2014 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel with Rev. Jay Denne officiating. Burial of his cremains will be at a later date in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Seigure was born on August 14, 1924 in St. James, MN to Selmer and Bertina (Askvold) Mathistad. He graduated from St. James High School. After graduation he served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II serving overseas. After returning home he was united in marriage to Joanne P. Connelly on May 5, 1948 in Mankato, MN. He worked for many years as an Engineer for the Chicago North Western Railroad. Seigure enjoyed fishing and camping. He was a very good handyman always filling his time with projects for himself or others. He also loved to be around and involved in the lives of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Joanne Mathistad of Sioux City; son Gregg (Monica) Mathistad of Lawton, IA; daughter Vicki McCulley of Sioux City; daughter Nancy (Dwayne) Johnson of South Sioux City, NE; son Michael (Lisa) Mathistad of Challenge, CA; and son Kevin (Suzzette) Mathistad of Paradise, CA; 9 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and a sister Alice Austin of Mankato, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents.
