Irene H. Rasmussen

Irene H. Rasmussen, 86, of Sioux City, passed away Friday, August 15, 2014 at her residence. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Visitation with family present will be from 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences can be directed to meyerbroschapels.com. Irene was born the daughter of Albert and Julia (Sailer) Wisner on October 18, 1927 in Sioux City, Iowa. She received her education in the Sioux City schools, graduating from East High School in 1946. Irene married Donald Rasmussen on September 20, 1952 in Sioux City. Mom worked many years for JC Penney in Sioux City until her retirement in the early 1990's. She was one of the most recognized people in the downtown store and worked in just about every department over her career. Grandma enjoyed puzzles and was a master of the daily crossword puzzle. She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed reading fiction novels. Grandma attended every grandchild event she could, ranging from sports events to dance recitals to musicals. Irene is survived by four sons, David (Nancy) Rasmussen of Sioux Falls, SD, John Rasmussen of Sioux City, Chris (Sandra) Rasmussen of Sioux City, Dean (Patty) Rasmussen of Ventura, California; one daughter, Evelyn Rasmussen of Sioux City; one son-in-law, Michael Starkey of Sydney, British Columbia; one sister, Betty Ann Looney of Colleyville, Texas; grandchildren, Heather Rasmussen, Stephanie Rasmussen, Amy (David) Marcum, Sara Rasmussen, Jill (Nick) Liming, Kristy (Rick) Allemang, Eric Rasmussen, Kiley Rasmussen, Cory Rasmussen, Brian Rasmussen, and Jason Rasmussen; and great grandchildren, Allyson, Dylan, and Parker. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; one daughter, Carla; two brothers, Don and Andy; and one sister, Margie.
