Lucille S. Hochwender, "Lucy" 81 of Sioux City passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday July 22, 2014 at home in the North Park Senior Living Community. Memorial services will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday at the Cathedral of the Epiphany Catholic Church. Father William J. Vit, Jr. will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Lucille was born August 16, 1932 in McVille, ND; she was the daughter of George and Gertrude (Guck) Kueber. She attended country schools and then graduated from Aneta, ND High School. Lucille attended nursing school in Fargo, ND and later attended Northwest Iowa Community College. She married Gerald K. Hochwender January 7, 1967 in Sioux City. Lucille worked as office manager for State Steel for 20 years, she and Jerry owned and operated St. Ann's Home for 20 years and for the last 15 years Lucille has been activities and social services director for Hallmark Care Center. Lucille has been a long time member of the Cathedral of the Epiphany and was a Eucharistic Minister for many years. She was active in many Church functions and also served as the parish historian. Lucille served on the board of the Girls Scouts and was instrumental in growing the Scouting programs in the area and was a longtime, beloved leader for both Boys and Girl Scouts of America. She had an amazing work ethic and worked hard as long as physically possible. Lucille liked everyone she met. She always looked for the silver lining in every cloud and maintained an upbeat attitude no matter what came her way. As a child on the farm, her best friends say that she was a natural born leader, was wise in all matters and admired. Throughout her life, she had numerous interests and accomplished endeavors with grace and flare. She went above and beyond in everything she did in life and was the ultimate organizer and go-getter. Her passions included but were not limited to; a love for nature, gardening, animals and bird watching. She loved the North Woods of Minnesota and the Black Hills of South Dakota and visited frequently with her family. Lucille loved adventure and was well traveled. She visited most states across the United States, Canada, Europe, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. Her early interests and adventures included becoming a pilot, building out a basement addition by herself and working diligently to promote good environmental stewardship early on in the scouting programs. Lucille and family fostered numerous children over the years. She loved having coffee with friends and telling jokes. She will be missed more than words can describe. Survivors include her husband Gerald of Sioux City; 7 children; 13 grandchildren: Heather (Ann), Ryan (Maggie), Nathan, Nolan, Sophie, Brandon, Katie, Caitlin, Ian, Quinn, Aidan, Dawson and Callum; 1 great grandson: Berron; 3 sisters: Florence Larsgaard of Aneta, ND, Helen Fosse of Sharon, ND, Leona Bergevin of South Pasadena, CA; a brother: Jack Kueber (Pat) of Aneta, ND. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, a son Sean, and a sister Alice Peterson
