SIOUX CITY | Zita E. Galvin, 91, of Sioux City, died Sunday, July 20, 2014 at Holy Spirit Retirement Home after a brief illness. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2014 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Rev. Daniel J. Rupp officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday and a vigil service at 7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Zita was born Jan. 7, 1923 in Sioux City the daughter of Richard L. and Zeta (Patten) Galvin. She grew up on the family farm near Cushing and Correctionville. After graduating from Cushing High School in 1940 she moved to Sioux City. She worked at The Stockyards Exchange Bank and attended business school. Zita was the office manager for Dr. George Spellman's medical practice for 35 years. Zita had a lifetime of volunteer services including the Carmelite Monastery, Trinity Heights and Hospice of Siouxland. She has been a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church since 1958. Zita loved horses and had a lifelong passion for music. She was very proud of her Irish Heritage and enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews and their families. Survivors include a sister and her husband, Cecelia and Jerry McCarty of Eden Prairie, MN; a sister-in-law, Alice Galvin of Sioux City; and 18 nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, Jack Galvin and Dan Galvin and his wife, Dolores, 2 sisters, Dorothy Getty and her husband, Chris and Mary Ellen Dowd and her husband, Don. Pallbearers will be Dennis Dowd, Vincent Galvin, Mike Getty, John Galvin, Joe McCarty, Tim Getty and Dan Galvin. Memorials may be made in her name to Trinity Heights Queen of Peace or to the Carmelite Monastery.
