LeRoy F. Deuhr, 91 of Sioux City passed away on Monday, July 21, 2014 at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness. Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at St. John Lutheran Church. Rev. Gregory Hanneman will officiate. Private graveside services with military rites will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Thursday at the Church. LeRoy was born January 8, 1923 in rural Buchanan Co., Iowa; he was the son of Walter H. and Clara (Holmstrom) Deuhr. He graduated from Hazelton, Iowa High School and attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa. LeRoy served in the U.S. Navy during World War II for two years, and was a member of the U.S. Naval Inactive Reserve for five years. After his discharge from the Navy, he began his employment with Iowa Public Service (MidAmerican Energy) in 1948 in Waterloo, Iowa. On April 9, 1949, LeRoy and Janice Baker were married in Waterloo. Four children were born to the couple and in June of 1961, the family moved to Sioux City where his employment with IPS continued in the Sioux City office. On October 1, 1986 he retired as Manager of Financial Reporting after 38 years of service. LeRoy was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sioux City, having served on various committees and as a member of the Church council. He is survived by his wife Janice of Sioux City; 4 children: LeAnn (Charles) DeVries of Leavenworth, KS, Sharon Gauslow of North Sioux City, SD, Randy (Jodi) Deuhr of Sioux Falls, SD, Barbara (Mark) Nielsen of Sioux City; 4 grandchildren: Jessica Monell of Sioux City, Jason Deuhr of Iowa City, Melissa (Kris) Kalkofen of Bellevue, NE, Lindsay (Justin) Mays of Guthrie, OK; 4 step grandsons: Michael and Scott Whitlock of Sioux City, Austin and Dalton Nielsen of Sioux City; 7 great grandchildren: Jayme, Jaycob and Jaycee Smith, Aden and Erik Kalkofen, Taylor and McKenzie Mays. LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ralph. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church or to the charity of your choice.
