SIOUX CITY | Michael J. Davenport, 23, of Sioux City died Friday, July 11, 2014, at a local hospital following a fall. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, with the Rev. Dimitri Tobias officiating. Burial will be in St. Thomas Orthodox Cemetery (inside of Graceland Cemetery). Visitation with the family present will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a Trisagion service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Michael Jaymes was born Sept. 24, 1990, in Iowa City, Iowa. He grew up in Sioux City and attended Clark Elementary School, Hoover and North Middle Schools and graduated in 2009 from North High School. Mike attended Morningside College and Iowa Central Community College. He was currently employed by Hy-Vee on Hamilton. Mike was very active in baseball. He played on the North High School Stars baseball team and was a member of the 2009 State Championship team. At age 12, he was selected to play for the Iowa Stars and then played for the Siouxland Stars which traveled all over the country, where he made close friendships and many lasting memories. He also played on the Akron Rebels baseball team. Mike also participated in soccer while in high school. He belonged to a rugby team at Western Iowa Tech and was involved in MMA contests. Survivors include his parents, Timothy and Elisa (Kivlighn) Davenport; six siblings, Lindsey (Jeff) Davenport-Landry of Iowa City, Iowa, Drew (Kylie) Davenport of Dover, Del., his twin sister, Morgan Davenport, Jaycob Davenport, Torianna Davenport and Anesa Davenport, all of Sioux City; his special soul sister, Carena Chwirka of Lawton, Iowa; grandmothers, Ayette Tayta Kivlighn of Sioux City, and Ginger Davenport of South Sioux City; five uncles and five aunts, Salah (Eimear) Kivlighn, Dennis (Gini) Davenport, Mark (Jennifer) Davenport, Linda (Charles) Kennedy and Elaine (Don) Skrdtlant; many great-aunts, great-uncles, and cousins; and his dog, Wyatt. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Dr. Donald Kivlighn and Boyd Davenport; and an uncle, Jeff Davenport. Pallbearers will be Scott Piersma, Brian Drent, Charles Watkins, CJ Nolen, Travis Kleist and Luke Hoberg. Honorary pallbearers will be the North High Baseball Team and WITCC Rugby Team. Memorials may be made in his name to the North High School baseball team or Noah's Rescue.
