Steven D. Gries, 48 of North Sioux City, South Dakota passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at Unity Point St. Luke's Medical Center following a courageous battle against cancer. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2014 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel with Reverend Nea Huggins officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. this evening, Thursday, July 10th at the funeral home with family present at 6:00 p.m. and a Prayer Service will begin this evening at 7:00 p.m. Steven was born on January 9, 1966 in Sioux City to Vern and Mary Beth (Spaulding) Gries. He received his education in the Sioux City Public Schools. Steven was a tremendous mechanic, a skilled welder, a jack-of-all-trades type of guy that loved dirt bike riding, working on cars, canoeing, and hosting great 4th of July parties. He had most recently worked at Soo Tractor Sweeprake as a CNC operator until ill-health required him to leave. Steven was a great father, a great son, great companion and will be missed by many. Steven is survived by his father Vern Gries of Sioux City; sister Sonya Gries of Sioux City; significant-other Ann McNamara and her son Jamie McNamara and his wife Melissa of Mesa, AZ; daughters Kelsey Gries, Caitlyn Gries, and Amber Kuhlmann, all of Sioux City, and Kari Larson of Florida; brothers Wade Dreeszen and Chad Dreeszen and their families; seven grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Steven was preceded in death by his mother and sister Debra M. Gries in 1987.
