Terry W. Slaughter, 66 of Sioux City passed away Sunday, June 29, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his family following a short battle with cancer. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Thursday at the Church of the Nativity at 4242 Natalia Way, Sioux City. Burial will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. Wednesday with a Vigil Service at 7:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave. Terry was born May 18, 1948 in Dover, Delaware; he was the son of Wilson and Darline (Dilley) Slaughter. Terry moved to Sioux City when he was eight years old and was raised by his mother and step father, Jm Ross. He graduated from Central High School in 1966. He graduated with honors from Briar Cliff University in 1975. He received a Master's Degree in Business Administration from the University of South Dakota in 1982. Terry married JoAnn Skarnulis in August of 1968 and to this union a daughter, Kim was born. He married the love of his life, Jill (Ihry) Lorenger Oct. 8, 1983 in Sioux City. Terry was a hard worker and started delivering papers for the Sioux City Journal as a boy. He drove Bomb Pop truck, detassled corn and sacked groceries for the grocery store in Leeds. He enjoyed working as bell hop for the Warrior Hotel in Sioux City. Terry worked for 3 years at Iowa Beef Processors (now Tyson) before starting his career with Iowa Public Services (now MidAmerican Energy) in 1968. He initially began in the Data Processing Department. Throughout his 44 years at MidAmerican Energy he had many different roles including Internal Auditing, Accounting and Facilities Director. The last 13 years at MidAmerican he was Senior Account Executive in Retail Gas Sales. During this time Terry also worked 3 years part time in the technical support department for Gateway Computer. After his retirement from MidAmerican Energy, Terry worked part time for Best Buy. Terry was a member of the Church of the Nativity and currently served on the Church Council and was the 8th Grade CCD teacher. Terry was instrumental in starting the Friday Night fish fry at Nativity Parrish. He previously served on the boards of the YMCA and Briar Cliff University Alumni Association. He was a member of the Siouxland Kiwanis Club and was active in First Tee, Junior Achievement and the Huck Finn Fishing Contest. He had served as Chairperson of the Relay For Life Campaign and was a Foreign Exchange Student Host Parent for students Maria (Arteago)Kaizer from Ecuador and Julija Djulabic from Germany. Survivors include his wife Jill of Sioux City; 3 daughters: Kim Slaughter of Apollo Beach, FL, Angie Keegan (Chris) of Sergeant Bluff, IA and Jenie Lorenger of Omaha, NE; a brother Edgar Slaughter (Iva) of Duncanville, TX; nephews: Jeremy Slaughter (Heather) of Grand Prairie, TX and Shane Perrin (Michelle) of Omaha, NE; grandchildren: Reis Anne, Avery Marie, Lauryn Anne, Jelea Shea and Dylan Christopher; special family friend Lee Brennan of Sergeant Bluff, IA. Terry was preceded in death by his father, Wilson Slaughter, mother Darline Ross, sister Karen Perrin, step father Jm Ross, grandparents Ola and Margurite Dilley. Terry enjoyed many activities, golfing on the Thursday night golf league at Green Valley, card club, boating , fast cars and being the neighborhood snow removal and fix it Man. Terry took pride in the up keep of his home, yard and cars. Most important was his zest for life, his true love Jill, and the time he spent with his family and friends. He was especially proud of his daughters and his grandchildren. His strong Catholic Faith, courage and determination in fighting his final cancer diagnosis was a true inspiration to his family during his final weeks.
