SIOUX CITY | Robert E. "Bob" Olson, 75, of Sioux City, died Saturday, June 28, 2014 at his home with his family. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Rev. Merlin Schrad officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday with the family present 5-8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online at www.meyerbroschapels.com. Bob was born Dec. 29, 1938 in Des Moines, IA the son of John and Neva (Head) Olson. He grew up in Des Moines and graduated from Des Moines Technical High School. On Sept. 15, 1962 he married Patricia A. Kosman in Des Moines. Together they raised 6 children. Bob was employed by the Rock Island Railroad and Western Weighing and Inspection Bureau for 30 years. The family moved to Sioux City in 1977. After retiring from the railroad he worked for L & L Distributing until 2000. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for 37 years and was active in the Knights of Columbus. Bob bowled in a league at the Plaza Bowl for several years. He coached Little League for his boys' teams in Des Moines and Sioux City. He loved vacations with his family at Backbone State Park and he liked to fish. Survivors include his wife, Patricia; 6 children, Michele (Craig) Patrick of Hudson, WI, John (Karen) Olson of West Des Moines, IA, Mike (Jessica) Olson of Newburyport, MA, Ann Marie Olson of Sioux City, Theresa (Dave) Brown of Sioux City, and David (Jenn) Olson of Cedar Rapids, IA; his stepmother, Wilma Olson of Des Moines who raised him since age 12; a sister, Margaret (Paul) Meyer of Altoona, IA; a brother, Kevin (Diane) Olson of St. John, MO;16 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Neva, a brother, Donald, a sister, Sandra and a niece, Danielle. Pallbearers will be David, John and Mike Olson and Joe, Anthony and Angelo Martinez.
