Gene Ross Wilcoxon, 66, of Hinton, Iowa, died peacefully Monday, June 23, 2014 in his home surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, June 27, 2014 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Visitation will be Thursday, June 26, 2014 from 4 to 8 P.M. with the family present from 6 to 8 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences can be directed to meyerbroschapels.com. Gene was born September 16, 1947 in Cherokee, Iowa. He attended Sioux City schools, graduating from Central High School. He joined the Navy in 1965, serving in Vietnam and Japan. He married Karen McCrill on December 13, 1970 in Sioux City. They made their home in Sioux City until moving to Hinton in 1995. Gene's working years included 20 years as a kitchen designer with Lefkow Supply, Central Kitchen Supply, and Pioneer Cabinetry. In his later years he managed a storage facility in Sioux City. Gene enjoyed spending lots of time with his family; camping, fishing, playing poker with his son-in-laws, and attending many of his grandchildren's sporting events. He was an avid golfer and pool player, on a pool league for 49 years. He got his first motorcycle at 59 years old which he thoroughly enjoyed. Survivors include his wife Karen; three daughters and their husbands, Lisa (Joe) Tobin, Lori (Greg) Breyfogle and Kim (Trevor) Wilson; nine grandchildren, Kelsey, Tony, Andrew, Hannah, Ethan, Jacob, Lynsey, Bailey and Jordyn; one brother, Frank and his wife Sharisue all of Sioux City. Proceeded in death by his parents Manford and Margaret and father-in-law, Wayne McCrill.
