She received her education at Cathedral High School in Sioux City before attending Briar Cliff College for two years. Helen married Frank E. Kahoun on August 21, 1946 in Sioux City, a 3rd generation restaurateur having been in the business for more than 30 years. The couple opened Frank's Café at 7th and Pierce Streets, Chuck Wagon Drive at 17th and Pierce Streets, Highway 20 Diner and The Stein Club at Gay Lanes Bowling Alley. Frank and Helen's last venture was the Town House in Sioux City at 27th and Floyd Blvd where they created an incredible community of family, friends, customers, and employees. "Everybody knew their name" at the Town House where celebration reigned and good times were had by all. Our memories of the Town House are deep and abiding. Helen was a proud member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, active in the Confraternity, and Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She collected Hummel figurines, enjoyed cooking, was proud of her Irish Heritage, and enjoyed researching the family genealogy (before there was computer assistance). Helen made it possible for her entire family to gather at Lake Okoboji each year creating many family memories of boating, family meals, and games. Helen is survived by her children Kathy Kahoun of Des Moines, IA, Frank R. Kahoun and his wife George-Ann of Palatine, IL, Barbara Kunze of Sioux City, and Patricia Hines of Sioux City; sister Mary Kay Ford of Baltimore, MD; grandchildren Lisa M.
