Frederick J. "Fred" Holcomb, 68, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014 at a local hospital after a courageous four year battle with carcinoid cancer. A Memorial Mass will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, June 13, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service time. Burial will be held at a later date. Fred was born the son of James and Rita (Wiebelhaus) Holcomb on June 19, 1945 in Sioux City, Iowa. He received his education at St. Joseph's grade school and graduated from Bishop Heelan High School in 1964 and received his associate's degree from Norfolk Jr. College in 1966. Fred married JoAnne Lee on February 8, 1969 in Sioux City. They have been lifelong Sioux City residents. Fred started in the real estate industry in 1973. He spent the majority of his 40 year career with Homeland Realty and later United Real Estate Solutions. He was the Vice President of Sales at the time of his death. In his younger years Fred enjoyed running, bowling, boating on the Missouri River and attending his children's sporting events. He was a staunch Iowa State supporter and Chicago Bulls fan. He loved spending time with his family at their lake home in Okoboji. Fred was a member of the Cosmopolitan Club and the Siouxland Aging Board. He was past president of the Greater Sioux City Board of Realtors and was presented the Realtor of the Year award twice in his career. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the University of Iowa Carcinoid Cancer Research Center or the Sioux City Cosmopolitan Club. Fred is survived by his wife, JoAnne of Sioux City; four children, Tim (Stacey) Holcomb of Sioux City and their three children Drew, Brooklyn and Hyatt, Laurie (Dan Thompson) Holcomb of Huntington Beach, California, Noah (Holly) Holcomb of Aliso Viejo, California, and Perry (Rhonda Delgado) Holcomb of Newport Beach, California; Mother, Rita Holcomb of Sioux City; one brother, Clarence Holcomb of Sioux City; one sister, Cindy (Mike) Lamoureux of Sioux City; one sister-in-law, Janice (Mike) Borschuk of Dakota Dunes; mother-in-law, June Lee of Sioux City; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and his brother-in-law, John Lee. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Holcomb, Adam Yudka, Dave Erlandson, Kevin McManamy, Ron McManamy and Steve Wolff.
