Donald C. Hansen, 84 of Sioux City, passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at his residence. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2014 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with Father Michael Erpelding officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present, will be this evening, Sunday, June 1st from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com Don was born on October 9, 1929 in Correctionville, Iowa to Martin and Betty (Bray) Hansen, the second youngest in a family of 14. He attended school in Correctionville where he enjoyed playing basketball and graduated with the Class of 1948. Don served his country in the United States Army from 1948 until 1952 during the Korean Conflict. He married Nancy A. Calfior Pilgram on May 22, 1954 in Sioux City. Don worked at Cargill in Sioux City for 39 years as a Boiler Operator until his retirement in the 1980s. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W., and enjoyed bartending at Post 1973 in Sioux City. Don was active in pool and bowling leagues for many years, enjoyed playing baseball, and enjoyed his friends at the V.F.W. Post 1973, where he would often enjoy a game of cards. Don loved his family, and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Don is survived by his children Robert Pilgram and his wife Kathy of Sioux City, Gayle Pilgram of Sioux City, Suzanne Quinn of Sioux City, and Jamie Miller and her husband Scot of South Sioux City, Nebraska; 8 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his parents, wife Nancy in 2008, daughter Patricia Ann Pilgram Bishop, 8 brothers, and five sisters. Casket bearers for the service will be Scot Miller, Ethan Powell, Bill Harris, Jeff Maley, and Shawn Eaton. Honorary bearers will be Guerrero Garcia and Randi Stender.
