Virgil D. Reed

Virgil D. Reed, 84 of Sioux City passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Westwood Nursing & Rehab Center following a short illness. Memorial Services will be at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Virgil was born November 26, 1929 in Council Bluffs, IA; he was the son of Andrew and Olive (Watson) Reed. Vigil grew up in Council Bluffs and came to Sioux City in 1948. He was married to Betty Lou Tubbs and then married Barb Shearn. Barb passed away in 2013. Virgil worked for and retired from the Great Northern Railroad. He loved animals and children. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycles, his dog Kaboom and hunting mushrooms. Survivors include 3 children: Suzanna Furay of Mystic, CT, Jerry Reed (Karen) of Sioux City, Wesley Shearn of Sioux City; a sister: Viola Stergois of Sioux City, 19 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, 3 children: Aletha Meyers, Virgil Reed Jr and James Reed; 3 sisters: LaVonne Hires, Rebella Ayers and Ruth Cousineau; a brother: Dean Reed
